Albemarle House
EOS recently supplied and installed the SFS infill to a regeneration project in the heart of Brixton. The project is situated in a vibrant area, just a stone’s throw from the o2 in Brixton.
The project involved a part demolition of existing blocks to create 92 private modern apartments and commercial space. The £10m development sits on a prominent corner site and offers a new and lively entrance to the existing Stockwell Park Estate. The commercial section of the scheme encompasses new offices for SW9 Community Housing which will enable them to expand and diversify the range of services they provide with new and improved, contemporary facilities.

DESIGN AND VISION
The build is an imperative part of the overall transformation of the area, set to improve the accessibility between Brixton Town Centre and the adjacent Max Roach Park through the introduction of safe and attractive pedestrian routes, as well as enhancing the surrounding areas of the site.
The overall cost for EOS design and supply totalled £55k. The structure of the build incorporates a basic concrete frame across three blocks, with standard basic EOS infill to form the external envelope. The layout of the flats achieves a high proportion of dual aspect homes with walkway access, maximising natural light into the dwellings – offering a balcony or sunspace to every home. EOS framing was used to make up the balconies that form sun terraces.
CONSTRUCTION
The urban area of the build meant that there were extremely tight site conditions. This made just in time deliveries a prerequisite for the project. EOS used colour coding and phasing of components which worked successfully to avoid large quantities of stock requiring storing and sorting.
The biggest highlight of the build for EOS was achieving the large opening with bespoke details – reducing heavy labour intensive windposts through careful value engineering.
POSITIVE OUTCOMES
The project has already seen success when it was highly commended at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2016 in the ‘Best First Time Buyer Home’ category as well as securing first place in the What House Awards 2016 for the ‘Best Starter Scheme’.
